1000 Animals Social Athletic Club Group Ride + BBQ
About the Event
Experience the unique blend of history and adventure on July 8th as we embark on a special mountain biking journey through Lake Placid. This event, titled "Ride Back to the Roots," celebrates the rich tapestry of cycling culture that has thrived over decades in this picturesque region. The name "1000 Animals Social Athletic Club" pays homage to the local group rides and our community partner, Placid Planet. Founded in the 90s as a casual meet-up for cyclists, it now stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of camaraderie among outdoor enthusiasts. While you don't need to be an athlete or particularly social, this event promises to bring together riders from all backgrounds. The ride will commence at Placid Planet (2242 Saranac Ave.) between 5 and 5:30 PM for a scheduled departure time of 5:30 PM. Two guided routes are planned—both offering scenic mountain biking trails in the Lake Placid area, with some connecting road segments to create an exciting mix of terrain. Your journey will conclude at West Shore BBQ (1975 Saranac Ave.), where you can savor a delicious dinner. Choose between a Sliced Brisket Sandwich or Pulled Pork Sandwich, both served with mac & cheese, cornbread, pickles, and BBQ sauce. Beverages are available for purchase on-site. Please note that no outside beverages are allowed to support the event's partnership with West Shore BBQ. The restaurant will open just for us, providing a unique dining experience amidst the natural beauty of Lake Placid. Registration is $35 and includes dinner and access to the ride; if you're only interested in joining the fun without riding, register for $20. All proceeds go back to maintaining our trails. Early registration closes on July 3rd at NOON to ensure we can place a pre-order with West Shore BBQ. Dress up or down as you please—though animal costumes and '90s era mountain bikes are highly encouraged for maximum style points! The event promises an unforgettable experience, so register early due to limited spots. Alternative parking is available behind Simply Gourmet if Placid Planet's lot fills up quickly. Join us on this adventure that blends the past with present-day excitement in one of America’s most beautiful settings.
