Experience Point Pelee National Park come alive on September 26, 2026, as UMEI hosts its annual Lightning Bolt race. This family-friendly event caters to all ages and abilities with four distinct races: a 10k run, a 5k walk or run, a kids' 1k dash, and a 400m kids’ sprint.
The park transforms into an exciting arena for runners of every level, offering timed competition under the auspices of W.R.A.C.E. The race promises to be more than just a physical challenge; it’s a celebration of community spirit and support for Christian education at UMEI, with all proceeds dedicated to making quality private schooling accessible.
Participants can expect a memorable event experience from start to finish. Early bird registration by September 11 ensures you receive a complimentary Lightning Bolt race shirt, enhancing your participation in this natural setting. The chip-timed event guarantees accurate and fair results for every runner.
Post-race refreshments await, featuring local delicacies like Mennonite sausage, ensuring runners are well-fuelled before heading home or exploring the park further. A swag table offers additional perks; bring a reusable bag to minimize waste while maximizing your chances of taking home some fun giveaways.
Awards ceremonies will take place immediately after the race for top performers in both 5k and 10k categories, with medals awarded to kids who participate in either the 400m or 1k races. Door prizes add an extra layer of excitement; winners must be present at the conclusion of the event.
UMEI offers family-friendly rates: two adults over 18 can register for free entry into Point Pelee and a Lightning Bolt race shirt, while up to three children participating in the Family 5K run or walk enjoy reduced fees. For those with kids registered in these races who also wish to compete in the Kids’ events, using code "FAMILY" at registration secures them a half-price discount.
