On October 17, 2026, the picturesque wine-growing village of Kitzeck im Sausal will host its second annual Steirische Terrassenlauf. This unique race takes runners on an exhilarating journey across historic vineyard terraces, from the depths of the valley to the festival grounds at Mehrzweckplatz, offering breathtaking views and a deep appreciation for the region's culture. Participants can pick up their starting numbers at Weinmuseum Kitzeck im Sausal on Friday, October 16th between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM or Saturday morning from 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM. The race itself begins near the base of the vineyard terraces under Mehrzweckplatz at 9:30 AM. The course spans a challenging yet scenic route over five kilometers, ascending a total elevation gain of seventy meters through varied terrain and natural surfaces within the terraced vineyards. Runners will encounter distinct characteristics on each level as they make their way up to the finish line back at Mehrzweckplatz. In addition to the main race for adults, there are special categories including a children's run (250m) for kids born in 2016 and later starting at 9:30 AM. A youth category will follow with a distance of 564 meters from 9:45 AM for those aged between 8 to 15 years old, while the main event kicks off at 10:15 AM. The day culminates in a celebration that includes live music and culinary delights as part of Kitzeck's Autumn Festival. Runners will be treated to refreshments along the route with water stations strategically placed throughout the course. Post-race festivities include an awards ceremony, a wine festival, and opportunities for Nordic walking enthusiasts. This event is organized by runningLeibnitz Labe, known for their expertise in managing such courses safely and efficiently. The race also provides convenient amenities like parking under Volksschule Kitzeck and changing facilities within the school's gymnasium.
