2025 Turkey Trot Athens TX 5K & Fun Run benefiting Hope Springs Water on Thanksgiving Day 11/27/25

This year marks its fifth edition for Turkey Trot Athens TX 5K & Fun Run, a tradition that has grown stronger each passing season. Since its inception in 2021, over 300 participants have joined to trot for a cause and create lasting memories. The race benefits Hope Springs Water, an organization based right here in Athens, Texas, which dedicates itself to providing safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene education globally.
The course takes runners through the firm yet slightly soft terrain of Austin's countryside. It starts at City Hall Plaza where participants will receive their bibs and enjoy a momentary pause before heading down Main Street towards the picturesque downtown area. The route features several gentle climbs followed by descents that offer stunning views, making for an engaging run despite its modest elevation changes.
Aid stations are strategically placed along the 3.1-mile 5K course to ensure runners stay hydrated and fueled throughout their journey. These stations provide water, sports drinks, and snacks, ensuring participants can push through any fatigue they may encounter. Additionally, a special feature is an interactive stop at Hope Springs Water's booth where attendees learn about the impact of their efforts.
Weather in November typically averages around 16 degrees Celsius with minimal wind and low UV index—ideal conditions for outdoor running. Runners should prepare by wearing layers appropriate for cooler mornings, as temperatures can dip below 10°C early on race day. The trail's firm surface means shoes that offer good traction will be beneficial.
