Strides for Shelter 5K Run + Walk Presented by The Canopy Housing Foundation Join us on October 17, 2026, at McAlpine Creek Park as we celebrate the tenth anniversary of Strides for Shelter. This year's event is dedicated to supporting Crisis Assistance Ministry, a critical resource that aids Mecklenburg County families facing financial crises by providing essential support and advocacy to help them regain self-sufficiency. Proceeds from this year’s race will fund significant upgrades at the organization’s Free Store, transforming it into a more organized, customer-friendly space. This initiative aims to enhance the shopping experience for those in need, ensuring they can access clothing, shoes, and household essentials with dignity and ease while reducing congestion. Since its inception in 2016, Strides for Shelter has raised over $242,000 from race proceeds, supporting various local beneficiaries working to address homelessness. The Canopy Housing Foundation, the event's sponsor, is the charitable arm of the Canopy Realtor® Association and works tirelessly to ensure housing needs are met through advocacy, education, funding, and leadership. Participants will enjoy a scenic 5K run or walk in McAlpine Creek Park, surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant community spirit. The event includes race t-shirts with chip timing, swag bags filled with exclusive merchandise, post-race refreshments, and engaging children’s activities to make the day memorable for all.
