Experience the unique charm of the Day of the Dead edition at Land of Enchantment Back Yard Ultra 2026. Hosted by Visit Las Cruces, this ultra-run takes place on October 30th, 2026, within the stunning Prehistoric Trackways National Monument in Las Cruces, NM. The race offers a network of well-maintained trails primarily composed of crushed gravel and featuring some elevation changes. Runners will enjoy breathtaking views of the Organ Mountains while pushing their limits to be the Last One Standing. The 4.17-mile loop provides an exhilarating challenge that tests endurance and persistence like never before. Participants can expect a "last runner standing" format, where runners compete in 4.167-mile laps starting every hour until only one remains. Each lap is completed on a lollipop-style loop within the National Monument’s scenic trails. The race concludes when the final runner successfully completes their yard alone within the one-hour time limit. The event offers ample personal aid setup areas, with campsites and parking available near the start/finish area. A dedicated group area provides spots for runners to set up crew support. Start/finish aid stations will supply porta-potties, hydration (water and Gatorade), trail snacks, pickles, wraps, and coffee during late-night and morning hours. All participants receive a Land of Enchantment hoodie and a DNF medal upon completion. Runners who complete 24 yards earn a 100-mile buckle. Overall male and female awards will be given alongside the Fastest Yard Lap prize. Standard backyard format rules apply, ensuring fair competition while maintaining the spirit of this unique event. The race is capped at 75 participants, with packet pickup available on October 29th from 3 pm to 6 pm at Bluebird Running in Las Cruces and starting early Friday morning near the start/finish area within Prehistoric Trackways. Detailed directions guide runners to the camping area where they can set up for personal assistance. Refunds are not allowed, but spots remain available as long as the participant count is below 100. A portion of each registration will be donated to the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance, an organization dedicated to maintaining and protecting trails in the region. Join us on October 30th, 2026, for a memorable experience that combines the spirit of endurance running with the rich cultural heritage of Day of the Dead.
