2026 Bookish 5K & Cookie Fun Run (If You Give A Pig A Party)

Race day in the heart of downtown Waterloo will be a warm and sunny affair. The event marks its third year under the theme of "If You Give A Pig A Party." This annual tradition began with an inspiring idea from the Waterloo Library & Historical Society: a 5K run where participants can enjoy cake without the guilt. The first 100 Bookish 5K participants will walk away with a book-themed medal and T-shirt, making this event not just a race but also a celebration of literature.
Course conditions promise to be straightforward yet engaging. Runners will navigate through familiar streets surrounding the library area on a hard and dry surface that is well-suited for both walkers and runners alike. The route includes several gentle curves and turns, ensuring there’s no shortage of scenic views as you make your way around the 3.1 miles (5K) course.
The race starts at the Waterloo Library & Historical Society with an enthusiastic crowd cheering on participants before transitioning smoothly to a finish line just steps away. Along this looped route, runners will find two aid stations offering water and cake for those who wish to indulge once they cross the finish line. Special attention is given to ensuring that all necessary facilities are well-stocked.
