The 2026 Cornerstone 100 Lake Erie Bicycle Tour, set to take place on September 12th, invites cyclists from Michigan and Ohio to battle it out across the border. This year's event is not just a race but a celebration of cycling culture in both states. Held in Monroe County, Michigan—just 12 miles from the Ohio state line—the tour offers four different routes: a challenging 100-mile century, a grueling 65-mile gravel ride, a moderate 62.5-metric-century route, and a more leisurely 30-mile road course. Each distance is designed to cater to various skill levels, ensuring there's something for every cyclist. The event aims to support non-motorized transportation initiatives through donations from participants. This year, the focus shifts towards Michigan’s League of Michigan Bicyclists and Ohio’s Ohio Bicycle Federation—both organizations work tirelessly on state-level advocacy and education related to cycling safety and rights. To add a competitive edge, this year's Cornerstone 100 introduces a unique twist: states can vie for bragging rights by increasing their online registrations before August 1st. The more participants each state attracts, the greater the donation towards their respective biking organizations. Michigan stands to win up to $1,000 if they surpass an increase of ten registrants; Ohio faces similar incentives. Registration is open until September 9th at midnight, with early bird pricing available through May 31st. Helmets are mandatory for all participants, and riders must be 18 years or older by the day of the event. T-shirts can only be ordered online before July 15th; otherwise, they'll be one-size-fits-all. The ride promises a flat terrain with no significant hills—a perfect setting for both seasoned cyclists and newcomers alike. E-bikes are welcome on all routes, making it easier to tackle any distance you choose. Participants will find plenty of support along the way, including SAG vehicles, water stations, and rest stops stocked with snacks. Event day starts early at 6:30 a.m., with registration closing by 9:00 a.m. The first century riders must hit the road before 7:00 a.m., followed closely by the gravel route participants starting at 8:00 a.m. Those on shorter routes can join later, with lunch available from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. After completing their chosen distance, riders will receive more than just satisfaction; they'll take home a SWAG bag containing a t-shirt and the best chocolate chip cookies in Monroe County, baked by Public House Food & Drink using local ingredients. Register early for the best price—$50 until May 31st, rising to $60 on race day. Day-of-the-ride registrations are accepted but count as half an entry unless you sign up before July 15th and claim your t-shirt size in advance. The event is weather-dependent; if canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, prize money may be reduced or not awarded at all. Despite the potential for last-minute changes, this Cornerstone 100 Lake Erie Bicycle Tour promises an unforgettable experience that celebrates cycling’s spirit of camaraderie and competition.
