On a crisp autumn morning, the town of Sisters in Oregon comes alive with runners participating in its beloved annual 5K and half marathon events. The race day falls on Saturday, October 24th, offering both seasoned athletes and casual joggers an opportunity to explore the natural beauty that surrounds this small community nestled amidst rugged mountains and verdant forests.
The course begins in Sisters’ scenic downtown area before heading into the enchanting Deschutes National Forest for its half marathon variant. The route winds through single-track trails on Peterson Ridge, offering runners a chance to enjoy stunning views of the surrounding wilderness while breathing in the crisp mountain air that fills the October sky. As participants make their way back towards downtown Sisters, they pass by the FivePine campus under towering Ponderosa pines, which serve as a testament to the town’s commitment to nature and community.
The 5K race takes runners on a journey through picturesque streets lined with historic buildings, while the half marathon follows an even more challenging path that includes steep climbs and downhill sections. The course is known for its firm yet slightly soft terrain, ideal for both experienced and novice participants alike. Runners should prepare themselves for moderate UV exposure during their run, as well as the possibility of rain or snow showers given Sister's October weather patterns.
