Pedals and Passport: A Breathtaking Cycling Journey Across Borders Embark on an unforgettable cycling adventure with Pedals and Passport, the signature event of Metro 313 Cyclones - Major Taylor Detroit. This unique international race takes you through the picturesque landscapes of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, just a stone's throw from Detroit, Michigan. The route weaves through historic cities that played significant roles in the Underground Railroad, offering cyclists stunning views and rich cultural experiences. Starting at Malden Park, your journey will traverse mostly flat terrain with smooth roads. As you cycle southeastward, prepare to be captivated by coastal vistas of Lake Erie, windmill-studded farmlands, and vineyards that dot the landscape. The route includes three distinct options: the Kingsville Cyclone Century+, Colchester Metric, and Amherstburg 30, each offering a unique experience. The event kicks off on Friday evening with a casual pre-ride tour called "Wha Up Doe!" at around 15 to 16 mph. This is your perfect opportunity to explore the area before the main event. On Saturday morning, you'll gather early at Malden Park Visitor's Center for registration and setup from 6:00 am onwards. Registration opens promptly at 7:00 am but closes by 9:30 am, so make sure you're ready to hit the road on time. Cyclone-led group rides are available for those who prefer a guided pace or want company during their journey. These groups will roll out at pre-defined times and maintain specific paces—orange arrows mark routes with an average speed of 18 mph, green ones indicate around 15-17 mph, while yellow arrows denote about 12 to 15+ mph. Participants must return by 4:00 pm, ensuring you have enough time for the event day. After a grueling but rewarding ride, enjoy an after-ride lunch provided with vegetarian and vegan options available. The recovery ride on Sunday offers two pace groups—casual and "spicy"—allowing cyclists to recharge in style. To ensure your experience is seamless, remember to bring your passport or enhanced driver's license for the border crossing. For accommodation, several hotels offer special rates near Malden Park, including Holiday Inn Express & Suites - Detroit – Dearborn, with rates starting at $149 per night (based on availability). Mark your calendars for August 8, 2026, and prepare to pedal through history while enjoying the natural beauty of southern Ontario.
