2027 Tour of Georgia Gran Fondo, a SENA Gran Fondo National Series event
About the Event
Experience the breathtaking landscapes of Helen, Georgia, as you participate in the 2026 Tour of Georgia Gran Fondo. Set on Sunday, April 19, this event offers three loop options to cater to all levels from beginners to elite cyclists. The ride begins at City of Helen Riverside Park and weaves through the picturesque North Georgia Mountains. The course is divided into four timed sections for those aiming for overall podium finishes. Each segment presents unique challenges, ensuring a thrilling experience throughout the day. In the first timed section, riders will ascend Unicoi Gap, which was famously part of the 2008 Tour de Georgia route leading up to Brasstown Bald. The climb offers stunning views and a gradual ascent before turning into an alpine challenge. From there, cyclists can enjoy a descent through the Chattahoochee National Forest, followed by a challenging left turn onto Richard Russell Scenic Highway that leads to Hogpen Gap. The second timed section takes participants up Hogpen Gap, where they will reach the highest point on the course at 3469 feet. The views from this vantage are simply breathtaking, and riders must be cautious of sharp turns during their descent back down. After tackling these major climbs, the route heads east through Unicoi State Park before hitting another timed section near mile 46. This segment features rolling terrain for about four miles before transitioning into a non-timed loop around Lake Burton and Seed Lake. Savvy riders will want to conserve energy here as they approach the final timed stretch. The last timed segment is a short but intense climb, covering just over two miles at an elevation of more than 80 miles into the day’s ride. Despite its brevity, this section demands significant effort from participants. Upon completing your journey back into Helen, you’ll be greeted by Bavarian charm and history. The town was established in 1969 as a collaboration among local business owners to create "Bavaria in the Appalachians." Just outside of Helen lies Nacoochee Indian Mound, marking the site of an ancient Cherokee settlement. The event promises not only incredible scenery but also a great finish-line party with post-ride meals and celebratory beers. Prizes for age-group placements are abundant, including custom "Race Winner" kits from SUAREZ for Gran Route winners, as well as raffle prizes courtesy of Gran Fondo National Series sponsors.
