23ème TRAIL DU MONT AIGOUAL

The 23rd edition of the Trail du Mont-Aigoual, nestled within the UNESCO-listed Cévennes National Park, promises an unforgettable experience for trail enthusiasts. This year's race is part of the Gard Pleine Nature label and counts towards the 2026 Challenge Gardois des Trails.
Participants can choose from a variety of distances: the main event at 23 kilometers (La Luzette), which commences at 9:30 AM with an elevation gain of 720 meters. For those seeking a more leisurely run, two shorter options are available—13 kilometers and 8 kilometers, both starting at 10 AM with respective climbs of 305 meters and 200 meters. A 8-kilometer randonnée (walk/run) is also on offer for the morning.
Dress warmly; the event takes place in the crisp mountain air. The La Luzette route offers stunning views, particularly towards the Mediterranean side of this majestic massif. Runners will traverse lush forests and rugged trails, passing by cascading waterfalls before reaching panoramic vistas stretching to the sea.
The race is open for online registrations from April 1st, 2026, with limited spots available. Dossards can be collected on site at L'ESPEROU starting from 7:30 AM on the day of the event. Minimum age requirements are as follows: 16 years old (born in or before 2010) for the 8K and 13K, and 20 years old (born in or before 2006) for the 23K. A valid FFA license or equivalent is required; minors must provide a medical certificate.
A souvenir prize awaits all participants who pick up their dossards. Prizes will be awarded to top three finishers across genders and categories, with separate awards for each category in men's and women's divisions. Note that there are no cumulative prizes available beyond these initial honors.
The race follows strict park regulations; detailed information can be found on the official Cévennes National Park website. The course guarantees 99% forested paths and mountain trails, showcasing the upper Hérault valley’s natural beauty with its cascades and Mediterranean views.
Remember to carry your own energy supplies for this semi-autonomous event; a bidon belt is essential. Depending on health guidelines, access to aid stations may be regulated—check updates if necessary.
A series of outdoor exhibitions will line the route, including an exciting meteorological exhibit at Mont-Aigoual and geological wonders like the Bramabiau Abyss near Camprieu. To reach L'ESPEROU, follow directions from Nîmes, Alès, or Montpellier towards Ganges – Vigan; take the road to Mont-Aigoual just before Pont-d'Hérault.
