As part of Hellfire Events' Kent Backyard Ultra Series, you'll be stepping into a role that's integral to the event’s success.
The Bedgebury race is not your typical run; it challenges participants in ways both physical and mental. The course consists of 4.167 miles every hour, with runners starting on the hour and needing to complete each loop within an hour to continue. Should a runner miss their mark, they're out of the competition.
Volunteers play a crucial role by ensuring safety and providing support throughout the event’s duration. Whether you join Race Control or Course Ops teams, your presence is vital in maintaining order and creating a safe environment for all participants.
Race Control volunteers welcome runners, check them in, and provide assistance as needed. They also help keep the area organized and calm, offering steady encouragement to those who need it most.
Course Ops team members are stationed along the route, guiding runners safely through each loop while monitoring key points and potential hazards. As fatigue sets in, these roles become even more critical for ensuring everyone's well-being.
Volunteers commit to shifts ranging from 6 hours to a full day, though many choose to stay longer as they immerse themselves further into the event’s dynamic atmosphere. The Crew Coordinator will contact you after signing up to confirm your availability and preferred role.
Before the race begins on July 16th at 9:00 PM, volunteers gather for set-up starting Friday afternoon in Dover before transferring to Bedgebury by early evening. Participants start arriving around 5:00 PM with the event officially kicking off shortly after dark.
In recognition of your dedication and hard work, Hellfire Events offers a range of benefits including fully transferable event credit equivalent to a full Backyard Ultra experience for those who volunteer for at least twelve hours or more.
