The Bayreuth Section of the German Alpine Club is excited to host its fourth annual Autumn Run, building on the successful turnout from previous years. This year’s race features an entirely new course starting near the outdoor pool behind the famous Festspielhaus, offering a challenging route through forest and woodland paths. Participants can choose between two distances: 5 kilometers or 11 kilometers. Both routes are technically demanding with rough terrain involving significant elevation gain of approximately 120 meters for the shorter distance and around 300 meters for the longer one. The course winds its way over rocky trails, making it more challenging than in past years. The event is designed to cater to a wide range of runners including children, youth, women, men, and everyone in between. For younger participants, there's also an approximately 800-meter kids' race that circles the field behind the starting location. Public transportation options include taking bus number 305 directly to the Festspielhaus stop. Registration fees are €17 for adults and €4 for children aged up to 12 years old; participants under 13 can register at the start line but will incur a late registration fee of €5, if space permits. Payment is made via direct debit upon sign-up or cash on-site before race day. The event begins around 1:15 PM with a briefing scheduled for approximately 2:15 PM. Post-race refreshments such as tea, non-alcoholic beer, mineral water, apples, bananas and more will be available in the finish area. Prizes are awarded to first-place winners across various age groups. In addition to competitive racing categories, there's also a walking division for both women and men (including Nordic walkers). Many additional prizes will be raffled off among submitted race numbers after the awards ceremony concludes. For more information or updates during business hours, contact the event office. About Bayreuth
Learn more about the host city, Bayreuth.
The festival city of Bayreuth in Upper Franconia (Oberfranken) is relatively quiet most of the year until the Richard Wagner Festival settles in for 30 days every summer. Bayreuth features a wealth of impressive baroque and rococo architecture, as well as freshly-brewed Franconian beer in the local Biergartens. Although the city remains fairly tame compared to the much larger cities in Germany, the presence of more than 10,000 students at the University of Bayreuth means an active nightlife is not difficult to find.
