Photo rogaining is a map-based sport in which teams collect points at checkpoints within a time limit, photographing each one to match a sample image. The number on the map is the score, and the team with the highest total wins. Walking and running are both fine. This is the third edition in Ichinomiya, Aichi, a city between Nagoya and Gifu known as a textile town and as the home of morning-set culture, where a drink at a cafe comes with a free light meal. This year there are more checkpoints, renewed categories and special awards, so every team has a shot at a prize. Local high school students have designed an original morning menu for participants, shops at the checkpoints plan to welcome teams, and everyone receives a commemorative gift. Four-hour categories are offered for women's, men's and mixed teams of 2 to 5 members, junior high age and up, with a representative aged 16 or older entering for the group. The race is part of the Photo Rogaining Series run by the Japan Photo Rogaining Association, so teams earn ranking points automatically; they are tallied by team name, representative and phone number. Scoring uses a smartphone, one per team, and staff can help teams without one.
