48th Annual Oglesby Turkey Trot

Race day dawns with a crisp chill in the air and a slight breeze that whispers through the trees surrounding Oglesby. The landscape is a mix of autumn hues—crimson leaves carpeting the ground, interspersed by patches of green. As runners gather under the gray skies, they're greeted by a sense of camaraderie and anticipation, with families and friends mingling in the small town's community center. Course & conditions
The course takes participants on a scenic journey along the historic streets of Oglesby before venturing into the gently rolling countryside. The terrain is firm but slightly soft, making for an invigorating yet manageable run. Runners will traverse both paved roads and small dirt paths, providing a mix of challenges that keep the pace engaging without being too taxing. Elevation changes are minimal, with occasional hills offering slight inclines before descending back into the flatter stretches. Along the route, runners can expect to see picturesque farms and quaint local businesses marking their progress. Aid stations will be strategically placed every 1 mile for water and refreshments, ensuring that participants remain well-hydrated throughout the race.

LOGISTICS
To register, visit www.runsignup.com/Race/IL/Oglesby/OglesbyTurkeyTrot or mail in your application to Starved Rock Runners at PO Box 1092, LaSalle, IL 61301. Early registration fees are $30 for the three-mile run/walk; on race day, limited spots will be available from 7:00am - 8:45am for a fee of $35 per participant. Bib pickup is encouraged and can be done at the Oglesby Elks Lodge on Wednesday, November 25th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Participants are advised to arrive early as bib distribution tends to attract eager runners looking to secure their spots.
Bibs will also be available for pick up in person at the race start and finish area; however, this is not recommended due to potential long lines. For those unable to attend in person or who wish to register closer to the event date, online registration remains open until 12:00pm on November 26th. Age group requirements dictate that all entrants must be checked in between 7:00am and 8:45am; failure to do so may result in disqualification. First-time participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the course beforehand, especially considering its firm yet slightly soft conditions, which can vary based on recent weather patterns.
