The Sullivan 5K-DEN returns to the Sullivan Fairgrounds in Sullivan, Missouri on Saturday, September 12th at 8:00am. This is our 13th annual event, held each year as a tribute to Kaden Keller who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age seven and passed away on September 9th, 2014. Race morning in Sullivan finds the fairgrounds bustling yet peaceful. As runners gather around the starting line near the main entrance, they are greeted by the familiar sights of carnival rides and food stands. The air is cool with a hint of autumn, creating an atmosphere of both excitement and remembrance as participants prepare to honor Kaden's memory. For over a decade now, this 5K-DEN has been supporting children battling leukemia like Jace Hussey at age ten, Theo McAfoos just four years old, and Aven Sanazaro who is twelve. The event raises funds for medical and travel expenses for these brave kids and their families, making it more than just a race; it’s an essential part of the community's annual tradition. The course venue follows hard and dry surface trails through the fairgrounds, offering runners a straightforward path that measures exactly 5K or about three miles. The route begins at the main entrance where participants will line up for the start before heading around the perimeter to finish near the food stands again. There are no significant elevation changes on this flat course, ensuring an even pace throughout. On race day, expect temperatures in the mid-20s Celsius with a feel-like temperature of 21.4C. The humidity at about 63.8% might make for slightly uncomfortable conditions but not unbearable. With average wind speeds around 9.9 miles per hour and no significant rainfall expected, runners can look forward to clear skies and sunshine during the race.
