About the Event

New York Ultrarunning and elitefeats are proud to present the Long Island 6 Hour Run and Relay, celebrating its 60th anniversary on September 27, 2026. This year's event will honor the memory of Fred von der Heydt as well as Nick Palazzo and Bob Sherman.
Scheduled for a rain-or-shine start at Belmont Lake State Park in West Babylon, New York, participants can choose to run or walk as much distance as they wish over a 2.50-mile loop around the park's scenic trails. Individual runners and teams of four (either male, female, or coed) and six will compete to cover the most mileage during this endurance challenge.
The event offers an aid station every 2.5 miles, ensuring that participants have access to water, snacks, and other essentials throughout their run. The atmosphere is festive with a continuous party vibe as runners loop around the park for up to six hours. After the race concludes, there will be plenty of food and refreshments available without any logistical hassles.
Participants are invited to join this special celebration in memory of Fred von der Heydt, Nick Palazzo, and Bob Sherman, making it an event that honors tradition while welcoming all ages and abilities to take part.
