Welcome to the Holter Forest Ultra (HWU), an intimate and scenic ultramarathon set for Saturday, August 8, 2026. This privately organized race takes place near Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock, Germany. The HWU offers a challenging yet rewarding course that spans 45 kilometers through the picturesque Holter Forest. Runners will enjoy mostly shaded trails and singletrack paths within dense woodland areas, punctuated by brief stretches on asphalt roads in forested surroundings. The terrain is largely flat but includes some minor undulations for added variety. The route features three distinct segments: two laps of 19.5 kilometers each followed by a final lap of 6 kilometers with a turnaround point marked by a manhole cover near the beginning of an asphalt section after leaving the first forested area. Participants should bring their own hydration supplies, as there is only one official water station at the start/finish line and another temporary station offering apple juice and water for mixing along the route if conditions are warm. Navigational skills are essential since the course is minimally marked beyond the turnaround point; runners must rely on GPS devices or personal map-reading abilities to find their way. The event also requires participants to navigate around any obstacles such as traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians independently. Highlights of the race include passing by Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock’s hunting castle with a designated selfie spot, an ancient 1000-year-old oak tree, Ölbach stream, Lander Bach brook, and remnants of an old prison building now in ruins. The course is particularly well-suited for those looking to test their readiness before tackling the Mauerweg race. Upon completion, runners will receive a finisher’s medal and commemorative buff if they register at least one week prior to the event start date. Additionally, results will be published on my.raceresult.com and by DUV (Deutsche Ultramarathon Verband). A digital certificate is available for download post-race. Participants must acknowledge that this race operates without third-party insurance coverage and run entirely at their own risk. Proper training status sufficient to complete an ultramarathon over 45 kilometers should be confirmed before signing up. The event will commence promptly at 8:00 AM on August 8, preceded by a brief briefing session starting at 7:40 AM where chip timing devices and race information will be distributed. A registration fee of €10 covers organizational costs including water points, digital timing systems, medals, and RaceResult services. In the event that extreme weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances necessitate rescheduling or cancellation, refunds may not always apply due to incurred expenses related to setup and logistics. However, any remaining funds will be directed towards social projects at year-end if possible. For more detailed information leading up to race day, make sure your contact details are accurate during registration as a crucial email with links and GPS tracks for pre-race preparation will be sent out approximately one week prior. This unique event promises an authentic running experience in the heart of Germany’s natural beauty.
