About the Event
The Antikyra Sports Academy "Xenodamos" is proud to present its eighth annual running festival, set against the backdrop of Distomo-Arachova-Antikyra. This year's edition features an array of races designed for all ages and abilities. At the heart of the event are two main races: a 10-kilometer semi-mountainous course that winds through scenic landscapes, challenging runners with its varied terrain; and a shorter but equally prestigious 5,000-meter race on a certified route. Both events offer participants an opportunity to experience the historic charm and natural beauty of Antikyra. For younger athletes, there are races tailored specifically for high school students over a distance of 1,200 meters and primary school children who will compete in an 800-meter event. These shorter distances encourage young runners to embrace sportsmanship while fostering healthy competition among peers. A popular participation race is also part of the lineup, inviting all members of the community regardless of age or experience level to join in on the fun. This inclusive spirit ensures that everyone can enjoy a memorable day filled with camaraderie and celebration. The event aims not only to promote physical activity but also to highlight Antikyra’s rich history and stunning natural surroundings. About Antikyra
Learn more about the host city, Antikyra.
Antikyra or Anticyra is a port on the west coast of the Gulf of Antikyra named after it. That gulf is a north-coast bay of the Gulf of Corinth. The settlement was made basically on a floor and beach fringing the northeast side of the mountainous Desfina Peninsula. Inscriptional evidence in the region proves that it has been continuous under the same name since classical Greece. Pausanias, an ancient writer, believed that at the beginning of the classical period it had two names, Antikyra and an earlier, Homeric name. Considering that the archaeology from that specific location dates only from the Geometric period, Pausanias' belief about the earlier antiquity of the site is suspect.
