The 99 Miles of Bad Road is an epic gravel cycling adventure that starts and ends at Loberg Park in Hardy, Arkansas. This race challenges participants with diverse terrain, including every road surface type—80% unpaved—and relentless rolling hills laced with occasional climbs and descents. Expect to encounter a mix of surfaces such as mud, dirt, gravel, concrete bridges, clay, crushed limestone, creek rocks, broken pavement, and more. The event offers two distance options: the 99-mile loop and an extended 199-mile route that runs clockwise in even years. The shorter "49 miler" will debut in 2026, starting and ending at Loberg Park but beginning earlier on a standalone course. All participants must ensure they have essential safety gear: a headlight or flashlight, whistle/horn, at least two liters of water capacity, an emergency blanket/bivy, either a phone, GPS device, or bicycle computer. For the 199-mile route, riders are required to provide their own live GPS tracking. A fully stocked aid station will be available around mile 60 at Mammoth Spring State Park; however, much of this route is self-supported and requires careful planning for water and food needs. The race organizers advise against canceling due to weather unless there are severe conditions like tornadoes or extreme thunderstorms. Water stops will be strategically placed along the 99-mile course, with updates on their locations closer to race day via Ride With GPS maps. Participants should download the latest GPX files onto their devices and thoroughly study these route maps for navigation purposes. The event emphasizes self-reliance but promises a memorable experience filled with challenging terrain and scenic beauty. A cool memento awaits all finishers, while top three in each category will receive unique custom awards. Don't miss out on this grueling yet rewarding adventure; check the official website and Facebook page regularly for updates!
