The A Run for Chris 2026 returns to Hamilton, Ontario on August 16th. This is the fifth edition of a race held in memory of Chris, aiming to spread awareness about mental health and addiction issues.
Race morning finds runners and walkers converging at Eastdale Park along Concession Street West, just north of downtown Hamilton near Dundas Street. The atmosphere is typically vibrant with familiar faces and new participants alike gathering before the start line under a canopy of trees providing welcome shade. Since its inception in 2021, A Run for Chris has grown to attract over two hundred participants each year. All proceeds benefit St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton’s Cleghorn Early Intervention Clinic, making this event more than just a race—it is an impactful community gathering. The course covers a flat and dry surface suitable for all skill levels. Runners will start from Eastdale Park, head west on Concession Street to the intersection with Main Street West before turning back towards the park along Lakeshore Boulevard. The route offers a mix of urban streets lined with trees and residential areas before returning to the starting point. On race morning, temperatures hover around 20 degrees Celsius, feeling much cooler due to a steady breeze averaging ten miles per hour. Humidity is moderate at 73%, but there's little chance of rain as only two millimeters are expected. UV index suggests high exposure so sun protection will be necessary throughout the day. The race offers four distance options: the standard 5K, a child-friendly version priced at CA$40.02; a toddler option that doesn't include a shirt and is free to participate in; and virtual participation for those unable to attend on-site but still wish to support the cause with their donation of CA$40.02.
