South By Five: A Series of Park Runs Through Glasgow’s Green Spaces
Returning for another season, South By Five invites runners to explore six distinct parks across the city over twelve exhilarating weeks. Inspired by the iconic Glasgow race The South Side Six, this series offers a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and diversity of each park through 5km runs.
The schedule unfolds as follows:
- Kings Park – Sunday, November 1st
- Linn Park – Sunday, November 15th
- Rouken Glen – Sunday, November 29th
- Pollok Park – Sunday, December 13th
- Bellahouston Park – Sunday, January 3rd
- Queens Park – Sunday, January 17th
Each race begins at a consistent time of 10:30 am, allowing participants to settle into the rhythm of the series. Completing five out of six races earns runners the prestigious title of "Fiver," celebrating their commitment and dedication.
The final event in Queens Park is not just an end but also a celebration with a gathering followed by prize giving at a nearby bowling club. It’s a chance for participants to reflect on their journey, connect with fellow runners, and mark their achievements.
For those who wish to experience the full series, entry can be streamlined through a single sign-up process. However, it comes with a strict condition: missing two of the first three races will result in forfeiture of your place without refund or opportunity for reconsideration. This policy ensures that spots are reserved only for committed runners who value their participation.
Entry to each race is free but carries a mandatory minimum donation to Acorn Trails Community Fund. Your contribution supports initiatives such as grassroots sports development, coaching and first aid training, local charitable donations, and the maintenance of trails in parks across Glasgow. To further enrich your experience, merchandise options will be available during sign-up until August. Additionally, each park visit includes an organized litter pick initiative to give back to these green spaces that offer so much beauty and tranquility.
