Across the Lake Swim Skaha Lake returns to Penticton, British Columbia on August 9th, 2026. The event spans a stunning distance of 11.8km from Skaha Lake Park in Penticton's southern tip all the way to Okanagan Falls. This is no ordinary swim; it’s a unique point-to-point course that takes participants through the picturesque landscape of one of British Columbia's most beautiful freshwater lakes.
Race morning brings crisp, clear skies and warm temperatures averaging around 24°C (74°F), making for ideal conditions. The water temperature stays at a delightful 23°C (74°F) throughout, ensuring swimmers are comfortable as they navigate the open waters. Alongside the main 11.8km challenge, there is also a shorter option: a 4.5km swim starting and finishing in Kaleden.
The event has been running since its inception, establishing itself as an important tradition for local athletes and visitors alike. The race not only supports the community but also contributes to the scholarship fund of a nearby high school, making it more than just a sporting event—it's about giving back to the area’s youth. Over 150 participants are expected this year, creating a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates both fitness and philanthropy.
The course venue offers diverse terrain, with swimmers diving into Skaha Lake Park before heading towards Okanagan Falls. The surface is calm and clear for those opting for the longer distance, while the shorter route also provides an exhilarating experience in Kaleden’s waters. Support paddlers are required for all 11.8km participants but not for the 4.5km swim. GPS tracking ensures safety and fun as swimmers can be followed live by family or friends.
