The Hertfordshire Wednesday Night 5k Series invites runners of all abilities to experience three consecutive evenings of racing on the vibrant streets and paths around Hatfield. Scheduled for August/September, these weekly events offer participants an opportunity to engage with local running communities while competing in a friendly yet competitive environment. Each race begins at Affinity Water HQ on Tamblin Way, AL10 9EZ, where runners can park their vehicles following the one-way system and enjoy convenient access to amenities. The series includes two special editions: the Herts Senior Championships (2 September) and the Herts Veterans Championships (9 September). Although all spots have been filled for this season, a waiting list is available should additional places become available. The 5k courses are meticulously measured and certified by UK Athletics with permit number xxx. Each race features top-tier awards, including first-place male and female winners as well as best age-graded performances. Additionally, category-specific prizes will be awarded to the fastest V40, V50, V60, V70, and V80 runners for both genders. Competitors aiming to break records may find themselves in a historic moment: Cameron Dockerill's men’s record stands at 15:06 from August 2025, while Annabel Gummow holds the women’s title with her time of 16:23 set on September 4th, 2024. Breaking these records grants runners a free entry to next year's series. Team competition is also part of this event, open exclusively to affiliated clubs. A team consists of four male or three female members from the same club who must complete all three races for eligibility in the prize draw. The best times from any two out of the three events will be considered for individual and team awards at the final race. Participants are reminded that wearing headphones is strictly prohibited, and using unauthorized facilities such as those outside Race HQ can result in disqualification from future series participation. Entry fees vary depending on affiliation status with England Athletics; EA members pay £10 per event while non-members incur an additional £2 charge. Runners who enter all three races together receive a discount. With post-race presentations at approximately 8:15 PM following each race, the Hertfordshire Wednesday Night Series promises not only competitive racing but also celebration and camaraderie among runners of all ages and abilities.

About Hatfield
Learn more about the host city, Hatfield.
Hatfield is a town in the English county of Hertfordshire 20 mi (32 km) north of London. It is perhaps best known as the location of Hatfield House, an historic stately home with strong royal connections that include Queen Elizabeth I. It used to be the base of De Havilland Aircraft, and it was at Hatfield that the Comet commercial jet airliner was produced. The former runway is now a commercial zone, with roads named after planes produced by De Havilland.
