About the Event

AKHA Trail invites adventurous runners to the stunning highlands of Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, where the village of Ban Pha Hee awaits. Nestled deep within Northern Thailand's mountains, this race offers an immersive experience through technical trails and steep climbs, set against a backdrop of dense forests and misty mornings typical of early August.
The route winds through lush jungle landscapes dotted with flowing streams and refreshing mountain air, creating a dramatic setting for trail runners seeking both beauty and challenge. The warm hospitality of the local AKHA community enhances this unique race experience, fostering connections between participants, nature, and culture.
Runners should prepare for humid tropical conditions and occasional rainfall as they navigate through varied terrain. Cooler temperatures at higher elevations add to the dynamic weather patterns that make each step more memorable and rewarding.
AKHA Trail is not just a run but an opportunity to earn Quest Points in the Asia Trail Master (ATM) series, with 80km distances contributing significantly. It also holds ITRA accreditation and awards UTMB Index points across all race categories, making it a must for trail runners aiming for both adventure and global recognition.
Join AKHA Trail on July 31, 2027, to embrace the raw beauty of Thailand's highlands and connect with its rich culture.

About Mae Sai

Learn more about the host city, Mae Sai.

Mae Sai (แม่สาย) is the northernmost city of Thailand. It is mainly a stepping stone for visits to Myanmar and has a few attractions of its own. Wat Pha That Doi Wao is an interesting temple complex on a hillside overlooking the border. It has a large scorpion facing (pointedly) toward Myanmar. The market in Mae Sai is marginally more expensive than that across the border in Tachilek, but has a slightly wider range of goods.
