Akron's 4th of July Firecracker 5K Run Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run

Akron's 4th of July Firecracker 5K Run Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run returns to Akron, Indiana, United States on July 4, 2026.
The race begins at River Park in downtown Akron. The park sits by the confluence of two rivers, creating a picturesque setting for runners. Race morning finds the air crisp with an early summer breeze, and the sun rising over the waterways casting light across the green spaces. Volunteers are on hand to greet participants as they arrive between 7:00 am and 7:45 am.
This event marks its fourth year in Akron's community calendar, supported by the Akron Las Donas Club. Over the past three years, it has drawn hundreds of runners who participate not just for exercise but also to support local initiatives that benefit both children and adults in need. The race raises funds for scholarships and emergency assistance programs.
The 5K Run Walk offers a challenging yet rewarding route through River Park. Participants will run along the hard and dry surface by the rivers, with minimal inclines or declines on this flat course. Notable features include crossings over pedestrian bridges that connect various parts of the park.
At the start line, runners will find themselves in a sea of fellow participants as they await the 8:30 am gun for the main event—5K Run. The 1 Mile Fun Run kicks off at 8:15 am and serves as an excellent introduction to road racing or simply a family-friendly way to celebrate Independence Day. Both events end back at River Park, where finishers will be greeted by cheering crowds.
