Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of Lancashire's moors with the Anglezarke Amble Challenge Walk. This event offers two distances for walkers: 17 miles and an extended route at 24 miles, while runners are invited to take on the full 24-mile course. The terrain is demanding, traversing through Rivington, Anglezarke, and Turton Moors, often referred to as "Little Lake District" due to its striking landscapes. Registration for both walkers and runners begins at 6:30 AM with a final cutoff time of 7:45 AM for participants. Walkers start their journey at 8:00 AM, while the more ambitious route is set off an hour later at 9:00 AM to ensure everyone has enough daylight. Participants are encouraged to wear clothing suitable for harsh winter conditions and must carry essential equipment such as a map, compass, whistle, torch, waterproofs, first aid kit, food, drink, and a mug. These items will be subject to random checks; those failing to comply risk disqualification. Refreshment points along the route provide much-needed sustenance at key intervals: 9.6 miles for walkers on the shorter course or 10.1 miles into their journey if they've opted for the longer distance, and again after 18 miles for both routes. It's crucial to ensure you carry enough water between these points. Upon finishing, all participants will receive a certificate commemorating their achievement, along with refreshments at various checkpoints and food upon completion of the race. The entry fee is £12 for LDWA members and £20 for non-members, which includes all mentioned provisions. The event operates on a strict registration system, limiting entries to ensure safety and enjoyment for everyone involved. If you find yourself on the waiting list, it's important to understand that this does not guarantee an invitation to participate in the race; only registered individuals are welcome at the venue. Rivington Village Hall serves as both the starting point and finish line of your adventure, located at GR 626141 (postcode BL6 7SE). Remember, no dogs are allowed on this course. Prepare for an unforgettable journey across some of Lancashire's most breathtaking terrain – one where every step is a testament to nature’s raw beauty and the spirit of those who dare to explore it.
