AZ SUNRISE SERIES - Kiwanis Park

The AZ Sunrise Series at Kiwanis Park marks the 13th annual kickoff of Arizona’s premier summer running series. Scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Tempe, this event is specifically designed to beat the desert heat with an early morning start. The race features a 5K distance and is part of a larger seven-event series managed by StartLine Racing, known for its competitive point system and high-value prize drawings.

The course at Kiwanis Park is inclusive of all skill levels and physical abilities, welcoming wheelchairs, strollers, and leashed pets. To accommodate different runner preferences, the event offers a unique "Open Start" window for those who wish to avoid the crowds, as well as a traditional mass start. Participants receive a custom series medal with a race-specific add-on, event-themed performance apparel, and access to a post-race "Runner's Brunch."

For those participating in the competitive series, points are awarded based on age group and overall finishes across seven different valley locations throughout the summer. To be eligible for the series prize drawing—which includes $500 gift cards—runners must complete at least four of the seven events. The Kiwanis Park leg is capped at 700 participants to ensure a high-quality experience and adequate course support, including extra water stations to manage the rising morning temperatures.

Logistically, the event offers several registration avenues, including mail-in options to bypass online processing fees and a virtual run for those residing within the US who cannot attend in person. Virtual runners receive the same medal and shirt, though they are restricted to the Kiwanis Park attachment rather than the full series set. Results are chip-timed and uploaded in real-time, allowing participants to track their progress and age-group standings immediately upon finishing.
