Join us for an unforgettable journey into the heart of nature at Richard Bong State Recreation Area on Saturday, September 26, 2026. CUSS Running invites trail runners and ultra enthusiasts to experience one of Wisconsin's most scenic spots with a unique blend of adventure, community spirit, and breathtaking landscapes. The event offers five distinct race options designed for all levels: the Backyard 24, a 3-hour challenge, a 6-hour endurance test, a grueling 12-hour push, and an epic 24-hour Ultra. Each option presents runners with rolling hills, serene lakeside views, and lush trails that wind through Richard Bong State Recreation Area and Vern Wolf Lake. The Backyard 24 is a loop course where participants run a 4.1-mile circuit every hour for as long as they can endure. The final hour sees the remaining competitors racing to the finish line in what promises to be an exhilarating sprint. For those who prefer flexibility, the 24-Hour Ultra allows runners to set their own pace and cover as much ground as possible over a full day. The race begins at 8:00 AM on September 26th and continues into the night with the support of your crew cheering you on from group campgrounds. The event encourages families and friends to join in, making it not just about running but also about enjoying the great outdoors together. Home base will be equipped with everything needed for comfort between laps. Participants can expect stunning scenery throughout their run, including picturesque vistas and serene natural settings that are a joy to explore on foot. Whether you're an experienced ultramarathoner or someone looking to push your limits in a supportive environment, this event promises an unforgettable day of trail running nonsense filled with camaraderie and good vibes. Registration details will be available soon on our website along with course maps and accommodation information for those attending the race weekend. Don't miss out on what is sure to become one of Wisconsin's most beloved ultra events. Mark your calendars now, gather your crew, and prepare to fall in love with the magic of running once again. CUSS Running ensures that all participants feel welcome through initiatives aimed at inclusivity, including free entries for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ athletes as part of our commitment to creating a community where everyone belongs. We look forward to seeing you there!
