Welcome to Backyard Ultra Cologne, an exhilarating endurance challenge set for Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 9:00 AM. The race begins and ends at the picturesque Decksteiner Weiher on Bachemer Landstraße in Cologne. Backyard Ultra is a unique ultramarathon event where runners must complete one lap of approximately 6.7 kilometers within an hour to stay in contention. If you fail to finish your lap or miss the start time for the next round, you are out of the race as a DNF (Did Not Finish). The winner is declared when only one runner remains on the course. The event takes place around Decksteiner Weiher, offering runners stunning views and varied terrain throughout each loop. Each 6.7-kilometer circuit includes crossing Gleueler Straße twice, so participants must be cautious of vehicular traffic as this section isn't closed off for the race. Runners are responsible for their own safety at all times. Competitors can use breaks between laps to refuel and rest before tackling another lap. The event is open to runners from various performance levels, whether you aim to complete just one round or push through multiple cycles. The start/finish area features a comprehensive aid station with food and water provided by the organizers. However, it's recommended that participants bring their own specific nutrition needs as well. Water stations will be set up along the course for hydration during laps. For those planning on camping nearby, please contact the event coordinators in advance to secure limited parking spaces. Bringing a pavilion or camp chairs is also welcome and can enhance your experience at this endurance-focused race. Race results and live tracking are available via Race Results using transponders embedded in the back of each runner's bib number for accurate timing throughout the competition. Stay tuned for further details on specific rules and regulations leading up to the event. Notably, current course records stand at 106 kilometers for women (Manuela Sender) and 135 kilometers for men (Jan Fromm), both set in Milers Colonia last year. Backyard Ultra Cologne promises an unforgettable blend of challenge and camaraderie against a backdrop of scenic beauty and urban charm.
