About the Event

Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Bagan at the Bagan Marathon by RUNderful Myanmar. The race begins early on local time with a ceremonial flag-off from Ananda Temple, an ancient and revered Buddhist site nearly a millennium old.
As you lace up your running shoes, prepare to navigate through one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites—a setting that seamlessly blends history and spirituality. Bagan, once the bustling capital of the Bagan Kingdom, offers runners unparalleled views of its iconic skyline dotted with thousands of temples, monasteries, and pagodas. Each step takes you past ancient structures standing as silent witnesses to centuries of tradition.
The route is designed to showcase some of the most stunning vistas in the region—sunlit earthen-hued temples contrasted against a vast blue sky create an awe-inspiring backdrop for every runner. Whether you’re an avid marathoner or new to long-distance running, this event promises an unforgettable journey through one of Asia’s most remarkable cultural landscapes.
The Bagan Marathon not only challenges runners with its scenic terrain but also immerses them in the profound history and spiritual essence of a place where each temple tells a story.
