Nestled amidst the rugged beauty of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, the Baldface Scramble offers runners two exhilarating course options. The shorter 14K loop winds over the dramatic Baldfaces, while the full marathon-length 29K route extends to a summit climb on Mount Meader before returning through stunning single-track trails.

Starting from the quaint setting of Baldface Farm off Route 113 in Chatham, NH (Evans Notch), runners will be greeted with panoramic vistas and steep ledges that challenge even the most seasoned trail enthusiasts. The course is meticulously designed to showcase some of New England’s finest mountain running terrain, offering a mix of technical single-track and wide-open stretches where you can really let your legs fly.

Aid stations are thoughtfully placed along both routes, ensuring runners have access to hydration and fuel as they tackle the rugged landscape. For those on the longer 29K loop, an additional summit aid station awaits at Mount Meader’s peak before descending back into the lush greenery of Chatham.

Upon completion, all participants will find themselves greeted by a festive atmosphere in a spacious field near the finish line, complete with post-race refreshments and camaraderie among fellow runners.

White Mountain Endurance Cup: Challenge Yourself Across Four Majestic Races
Embark on the ultimate endurance journey through the White Mountains with the White Mountain Endurance Cup, featuring four sub-ultra distance races that highlight some of New England’s most spectacular trails. Participants can choose to register for each race individually or opt for the discounted pass covering all events.
The series unfolds across a summer and fall schedule:
- June 6: Chocoura Mountain Race (23K)
- July 25: Baldface Scramble (14K/29K)
- August 15: Jigger Johnson Ultras (20 miles)
- September 19: Kilkenny Ridge Race (25K)
Completing at least three of these races earns you official finisher status and eligibility for the series leaderboard. Top performers will be crowned King and Queen of the White Mountains, earning bragging rights alongside invitations to join the esteemed Aravaipa Northeast Racing Team in 2027.
Prize packs are awarded to both male and female podium finishers at each event, while all participants who complete three races receive a commemorative Endurance Cup medal on-site after their third race completion.
Mandatory Gear
Given the unpredictable mountain weather conditions, it’s crucial for runners to pack essential gear such as 2 liters of fluids, 400 calories worth of food, and protective clothing like windbreakers or rain shells. An emergency space blanket is also required.
