Bamford Carnival Fell Race

Nestled within the picturesque Peak District, the Bamford Carnival Fell Race offers runners an exhilarating journey across Win Hill. This race is renowned for its unpredictable weather and challenging terrain, yet it consistently draws participants with promises of stunning scenery and a vibrant finish line.
The event begins at 7:30 PM from the tranquil Bamford Recreation Ground, where competitors are greeted by a flat start along Thornhill Road before ascending into more rugged territory. As runners navigate through footpaths winding up towards Win Hill's summit, they encounter steep climbs that test endurance and agility. Instead of reaching the trig point directly, participants contour around it, adding an element of variety to the route.
The descent from the hill leads racers in a switchback direction back toward Bamford, offering a welcome downhill stretch after the rigorous ascent. As runners near the finish line at the Recreation Ground, they can feel the end approaching with each step on flatter terrain. The race concludes amidst cheering crowds and a host of refreshments.
Well-marked trails and expert marshalling make this event accessible to both novice fell runners and seasoned competitors. At 7.3 kilometers (4½ miles) with an elevation gain of 305 meters (1001 feet), the course presents a formidable yet rewarding challenge for all participants.
A notable highlight is the post-race refreshment area, where pizza from the Sunshine Pizza Oven complements tea and coffee provided by Bamford Preschool. All proceeds benefit local institutions such as Bamford Primary School, Bamford Recreation Ground, and Mountain Rescue services.
While free parking is available at the start/finish location, pre-entry is strongly recommended to secure a spot in this popular race series event. Entry fees on the day are £10 if any spots remain. The race is licensed by the Fell Runners Association under UK Athletics rules and forms part of the Outside X Instinct Summer Fell Race Series.
