Bandit Ultra Trail

About the Event

The Bandit Ultra Trail returns to Simi Valley, California on September 26th, featuring three challenging distances in some of the most scenic terrain Southern California has to offer. This event takes place at Corriganville Park, a historic movie ranch known for its appearances in various films and television shows including Star Trek, The Lone Ranger, and Rin Tin Tin Adventures. Participants will run through Rocky Peak, Las Lljas, and Tapo Canyon, experiencing diverse landscapes such as sandstone boulders, oak savannahs, and perennial water sources that provide a unique habitat for wildlife.
Race morning in Simi Valley is typically crisp but warm by 7am when runners begin their journey. The course offers stunning mountain views with occasional glimpses of the Pacific Ocean through breaks in the hillsides. With challenging climbs throughout each distance, racers can expect to encounter varied terrain that includes rocky trails and steep ascents demanding both endurance and technical skill.
Established as a premier trail race, the Bandit Ultra Trail has grown significantly over its years running under different names but similar vision. In 2016 it was known as Rocky Peak Ultra before transitioning into what is now recognized in Simi Valley’s racing community as an iconic event. Each year, hundreds of runners come from across California and beyond to take on the challenging yet rewarding courses that highlight the natural beauty of Southern California's mountains. A portion of this year's proceeds will benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), ensuring that a good cause is at the heart of every step taken along these scenic trails.
The Bandit Ultra Trail features three distinct distances, all starting and finishing at Corriganville Park on Smith Road in Simi Valley. The 50K race begins early at 7:00am with bib pickup from 6:00am onwards; the 30K starts slightly later at 7:30am (bib pickup at 6:30am), followed by the 15K kicking off at 8:00am (with bib collection beginning at 7:00am). Aid stations are strategically placed along each course, providing crucial support to runners throughout their journey. For instance, the 50K distance includes stops like Chumash #1 and MarrLand #2 among others.
Weather conditions on race day average around 24 degrees Celsius with a minimum of about 18°C and a maximum hitting up to 30°C by midday. Humidity levels hover around 63%, while the UV index is moderate at level five, suggesting protective measures against sun exposure are advisable for outdoor activities like trail running. Precipitation tends to be minimal during September with an average rainfall of only about 8mm.

For those picking up bib numbers, it will take place at Corriganville Park starting an hour before each race’s start time. Runners are advised to bring their confirmation email or printed receipt for easy identification during pickup. Age requirements vary based on distance but generally cater to adults and young adults who meet the physical demands of long-distance trail running.
The Bandit Ultra Trail begins at Corriganville Park, located at 7001 Smith Road in Simi Valley, California. This event is not just about covering a set distance; it’s an experience that connects runners with nature through challenging terrain and breathtaking views. Frank Lloyd Wright is said to have quipped, "Tip the world over on its side and everything loose will land in Los Angeles," a quote that has since been repeated both by those who love and hate L.A. The "City of Angels" is home to people who hail from all parts of the globe and an important center of culture, business, media, and international trade. However, it's most famous for being a major center of the world's television, motion picture, and music industry, which forms the base of the city's status and lures visitors for its show business history and celebrity culture. Visitors are also drawn to Los Angeles for its Mediterranean climate and numerous beaches, which gave birth to California's famed surf culture.
