Battle Day 5K Road Race

Immerse yourself in history as you lace up your running shoes for the annual Battle Day Road Race, proudly presented by the Friends of the Monument. This special commemorative race marks the anniversary of the pivotal Battle of Bennington, fought on August 16, 1777.
The event takes place along a mostly flat (by Vermont standards) out-and-back course that starts and finishes at the iconic Bennington Battle Monument in Old Bennington, VT. The scenic route offers runners breathtaking views as they traverse through this historic town, where every step is steeped in significance.
Before the main race begins, families can enjoy a 1/2 mile Kid’s Fun Run around the monument starting promptly at 8:15 AM. This festive event precedes the official start of the 5K run at 8:30 AM, signaled by the firing of a musket—a nod to the historical context that surrounds this race.
Shirt pickup is available before the race from 7:30 AM onwards right at the monument grounds, allowing participants ample time to prepare. The event welcomes both runners and walkers with open arms but advises against bringing dogs or strollers due to space constraints along the course.
