Beaton Classic 2026

About the Event

The Beaton Classic 2026 returns to Greater Sudbury in Ontario, Canada on August 9th. This multisport event has been a staple of the local community for decades, attracting participants from across the region and beyond.
On race morning, expect an early start with temperatures ranging between 13.8°C and 23.8°C, feeling much like 18.8°C under clear skies. The atmosphere is filled with anticipation as athletes gather in the heart of Greater Sudbury's parks and streets. The route takes runners through familiar neighbourhoods such as Downtown Sudbury, where they can witness the city's vibrant culture and history before embarking on their journey.
The Beaton Classic has been a significant part of the community for many years, supporting local scholarships and fostering team spirit among participants. This year marks its 20th anniversary, with thousands expected to take part in various stages including open water swim, cycle, solo canoe, and running. The event's enduring legacy is a testament to its importance within Greater Sudbury.
The course venue for the Beaton Classic SOLO Men, Women, PAIRS - Co-Ed, Men, Women, FOURS - Co-Ed, Men, and Women races will follow the same challenging yet rewarding route through Greater Sudbury’s firm and slightly soft terrain. Starting at the downtown park, runners can look forward to a mix of urban paths and scenic trails that showcase the area's natural beauty.
The race layout includes several notable features such as multiple checkpoints for hydration and rest. The start is marked by the historic Downtown Sudbury statue, while the finish line will be located in the central park where participants can celebrate their efforts among cheering crowds. Elevation changes are minimal but varied enough to keep runners engaged throughout the course.
Weather conditions on race day should feel comfortable with an average temperature of 18.8°C and a moderate UV index of 4.9, indicating that sunscreen will be necessary despite the relatively cool breeze from typical wind speeds around 11 km/h. While there is only a slight risk of light rainfall (1.9mm), participants are advised to carry waterproof gear just in case.
