Step into one of the UK's most celebrated triathlon events where teamwork meets adrenaline. In its 14th year, the Zone3-sponsored Bedford Team Triathlon Relays returns to Box End Park in Bedford, offering a unique relay format that blends competition with camaraderie.
This event is tailored for both newcomers and seasoned athletes, fostering an inclusive environment that welcomes everyone from clubs to casual groups of friends. The scenic setting at Box End Lake provides the perfect backdrop for this thrilling race day experience.
Each team comprises three members who take on a full sprint triathlon together, tagging each other through swim, bike, and run stages. Every athlete completes all disciplines, making it an exhilarating challenge that tests both individual prowess and collective spirit. The relay format ensures that everyone gets to shine in their chosen discipline before passing the baton to teammates.
The course is meticulously designed for optimal performance:
- Swim: 750m at Box End Lake.
- Bike: A single lap of 23km on local roads, featuring a mix of countryside lanes and fast sections.
- Run: A flat and speedy 5km route around the park.
The atmosphere is electric with support from fellow racers and spectators. The event also features homemade cakes in the tea tent at the finish line to celebrate your achievement.
Competitive spirits are high as teams vie for podium places across various categories, including Open, Female, Mixed, and Veteran divisions (45+). Prizes await the top three teams in each category.
Registration opens early with a cap of 144 teams. Early sign-ups ensure you secure your spot at this highly sought-after event. The entry fee is £183 per team, plus an additional RacePass for non-BTF members (£8).
All athletes must be BTF members or purchase the RacePass during registration and adhere to British Triathlon rules (helmets are mandatory). Participants should come prepared with a wetsuit (rentals available via Zone3), roadworthy bike, helmet, running gear, and plenty of team spirit.
On race day, enjoy a smooth staggered start for swimmers, clear course markings for cyclists, and flat runways around the park. Medical support is on-site throughout, along with facilities like toilets, transition areas, and refreshments. Remember to plan your hydration as there are no aid stations on the route.
