Berryman 50 mile and Marathon Trail Races

The 26th Annual Berryman Trail Races return to the heart of the Mark Twain National Forest on Saturday, May 16, 2026. This historic event, organized by the St. Louis Ultrarunners Group (SLUGs), invites athletes to test their endurance on the legendary Berryman Trail near Potosi, Missouri. Featuring a signature single-track loop that is both forested and continuously hilly, the race offers a 50-mile ultramarathon and a marathon distance. As a sanctioned RRCA Missouri State Championship event, the 2026 edition promises a high level of competition and community spirit under the canopy of one of Missouri’s most beautiful National Recreation Trails.

The race weekend is designed for an immersive outdoor experience, with many participants choosing to camp at the Berryman Campground to be near the start and finish line.

The Berryman Trail is a 26.4-mile loop known for its rugged Ozark beauty, featuring plenty of roots, rocks, and creek crossings.

• - The Terrain: Expect approximately 2,500 feet of elevation gain per loop. The trail is entirely forested and follows a clockwise direction through the National Forest.
• - Cupless Racing: To minimize waste, this is a cupless event. Runners must carry their own hydration packs; a reusable SpeedCup is provided at check-in.
• - ITRA Points: Completing the 50-mile distance earns participants 3 ITRA points, while the marathon earns 1 point.
• - Wet Feet: Participants should prepare for at least two significant stream crossings per loop, particularly near the Brazil Creek aid station.

The Berryman Trail Races celebrate both performance and participation with custom gear and championship-level recognition.

• - Exclusive Swag: The first 150 registrants receive a custom Berryman ice bandana and a backpack cooler, essential for managing the Missouri summer heat.
• - Championship Awards: As the RRCA State Championship, special awards are given to top performers in Open, Masters, Grand Masters, and Senior categories.
