Embark on an unforgettable journey through the historic city of Béziers, nestled in Hérault within the Occitanie region. Known for its rich heritage and warm climate, this vibrant coastal town offers a unique blend of medieval charm and modern allure, making it an ideal setting for runners seeking both scenic beauty and cultural immersion. The annual Béziers Urban Trail invites participants to explore one of France’s oldest cities, dating back to 625 BC. This event takes place in October when the city is bathed in mild autumn temperatures and more than 300 days of sunshine annually. The trail offers a festive and convivial atmosphere that celebrates Béziers’ rich history and stunning landscapes. This year’s edition features five distances: a leisurely 10 km hike, as well as challenging runs covering 10 km, 16 km, 24 km, and the newly added marathon distance of 42 km. Each route promises to reveal different facets of Béziers’ architectural marvels and natural beauty. The adventure begins at Allées Paul Riquet, where runners will weave through narrow streets lined with Haussmannian façades and historic landmarks such as Saint-Nazaire Cathedral. The trail winds along the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its 9 locks of Fonseranes and picturesque bridges. Participants can expect to traverse lush green spaces like Jardin de la Plantade and Poets’ Garden Plateau, offering moments of respite amidst dense foliage. The route also includes secret gardens that are specially opened for the event, adding an element of surprise and discovery. The terrain varies from gentle paths along the Orb riverbank to challenging ascents and descents through Béziers' historic quarters. While demanding in parts due to numerous stairs, these sections provide access to some of the city’s most iconic sites and parks. As runners make their way towards the finish line on Jean Jaurès Square, they will have seen a tapestry of architectural wonders and natural splendor. The race concludes with an energetic atmosphere that celebrates participants’ achievements and Béziers' unique character. After crossing the finish line, enjoy panoramic views from the top of Arenas or indulge in local delicacies such as petit pâtés, Pézenas berlingots, sardinade, and la biterroise—a golden brioche dusted with sugar. Just a short distance away lies the Mediterranean Sea, offering runners an invigorating dip to cool off. The Béziers Urban Trail is more than just a race; it’s an experience that combines physical challenge with cultural exploration. Join us this October for a day filled with adventure and discovery in one of France's most captivating cities.
