No, don’t worry—we’re not going to talk to you about soccer ⚽️, and even less about a stroll down the aisles of a furniture store 🛌, but about the BUT: the Béziers Urban Trail in Hérault , in the Occitanie region. Known for its heritage and climate, Béziers is very popular with tourists. The city enjoys an advantageous geographic location between the Mediterranean Sea 🌊 and the Haut Languedoc mountains ⛰.
We invite you to discover the oldest city in France , dating back to 625 BC, through a race with a festive, friendly atmosphere! An event not to be missed every year in October . At this time of year 🍁, temperatures are generally still mild in a city that clocks up more than 300 days of sunshine a year ☀️ (yes, no need to go to Miami to get sunshine in the middle of autumn🤷♀️).
The organizers offer five distances : a hike of 10 km and trail races of 10 km, 16 km and 24 km . The flagship distance: the 42 km ! 🤩 Yes, all that was missing was a marathon , launched in 2025, to make the event perfect. So there’s something for everyone, with fairly accessible distances! As you can imagine, each event has its own selling points: the longer the distance, the more you’ll get to discover the city and its secrets. Whatever distance you choose, your journey will begin on the Allées Paul Riquet before heading through old Béziers , with its rich (very rich) historical heritage.
Now for the Finishers tip: keep your eyes wide open, because monuments will come one after another and open up to you as the kilometers tick by 👀. If you’ve never set foot in Béziers , you’ll be won over by its charming historic center. You’ll be able to admire the Haussmann-style façades of the grand townhouses, the imposing Saint-Nazaire Cathedral , and stroll along the Canal du Midi 🏞 with its 9 locks of Fonseranes , listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as its 240 m-long canal bridge spanning the Orb . No doubt your green interludes in the Jardin de la Plantade , the Arenas , and the last one, the Plateau des Poètes garden , will put some green in your heart 💚. You’ll also have the chance to cross the Pont Neuf and run along the banks of the Orb , a coastal river that runs through the city and meets the Canal du Midi . Finally, your spectacular finish on Place Jean Jaurès will cap off your great route 💥. The little extra of the Béziers Urban Trail ? You’ll wander in particular through secret gardens opened especially for the race. Oh yes, we almost forgot… plenty of stair climbs and descents will add a bit of spice to your race, but that’s the least you need to take on the parks and monuments that make Béziers so distinctive. As for elevation gain, it’s still overall quite manageable (twice less steep than in Lyon if you wanted a point of comparison).
