Embrace the natural beauty and spirit of Mendocino County at the Big River Adventure, now in its 26th year. This unique multi-discipline race invites runners, swimmers, walkers, and paddlers to explore the scenic splendor of the Big River. Since its inception, Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County has organized this event with a clear mission: to honor those affected by cancer while raising crucial funds for free services in our community. Participants will start their journey at the Big River boat launch, where they'll embark on an adventure filled with breathtaking views and a shared commitment to making a positive impact. The race offers several routes tailored to various interests: - 5K Runners: Take off along the haul road heading east before turning back for stunning river vistas.
- 10K Runners: Extend your run further down the haul road, reaching the 10K turnaround point where you'll enjoy a more extensive stretch of Big River. - "Fun" Walkers (5k): Join alongside the runners on their scenic route but at your own pace. - Swimmers and Paddlers: Dive into or paddle up Big River from the boat launch, immersing yourself in nature's beauty while challenging yourself physically. Note that paddlers must bring their own vessel. Participants aged 6 to 17 can enter any race division with a special discounted entry fee of $20 at signup. This event is designed to be affordable and accessible for everyone in our community. While we won't be providing t-shirts this year, you'll have the chance to make lasting memories and contribute to an important cause. About Mendocino
Learn more about the host city, Mendocino.
A favorite weekend getaway for Northern California Bay Area residents, the village of Mendocino is older than both the county and state to which it belongs, having lent its name to the former and further still to the combined coastal watersheds that occupy the nearly 200 miles between the mouths of the Eel and Russian Rivers, known far and wide as the Mendocino Coast. The town has long been a haven for artists, and is famous for its art galleries as well as its restaurants and trendy shops. It is smaller and more "refined" than its blue collar neighbor to the North, Fort Bragg.
