BIK TRI MARMARRA 2026: Bikote Mistoen Triatloi Herrikoia
About the Event
The Triathlon of Zarautz is an exhilarating mixed-gender relay race that challenges participants to complete a unique course combining swimming, cycling, and running. Open to anyone aged 14 or older as of 2012, this event welcomes both seasoned athletes and newcomers alike without the requirement for federation membership. The competition begins with a short swim in Zarautz’s coastal waters near Ama Birjin monument, where participants start their journey from the beach, diving into the water. Swimmers will follow signs leading to an arc before exiting onto dry land at La Perlako Arrapala and then running along Hondarribia Street. Next up is a 7-kilometer bike ride on N-634 road, beginning in Boxeta and continuing through Baneru Kale until reaching Iturritxiko. Cyclists will make their way back to the finish line at Boxeta via San Francisco street after completing one loop around Iturritxi. The race concludes with a 1.7-kilometer run along Zarautz’s picturesque waterfront, starting from Boxeta and heading towards Malekoikoa Street for a scenic route that showcases this coastal town's charm before returning to the finish line in style at an elevated viewing platform. Participants will compete across three waves of fifteen teams each, with intervals of 90 seconds between starts. The first wave commences promptly at 11:30 AM and concludes by 12:45 PM as the last team crosses the finish line, ensuring a steady flow of action throughout the day without any lulls. Athletes are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing suitable for all weather conditions; however, regulations require participants in both cycling and running segments to don either triathlon suits or matching jerseys. Helmets must be worn by cyclists at all times during their portion of the race. The event also features a transition area where athletes swap gear between disciplines while adhering strictly to time limits set by Euskadi Triathlon Federation rules. Cyclists can choose any bicycle type except for electric bikes, ensuring an accessible and inclusive competition environment. Beyond its competitive nature, this triathlon offers participants not only the chance to test their endurance but also a memorable experience of Zarautz’s stunning coastal setting. With clear instructions provided via email before race day and comprehensive guidance available at information booths on-site, athletes can focus fully on enjoying both the challenge and camaraderie. For those requiring special assistance or accommodations due to disabilities, organizers are readily accessible through designated contact channels for tailored support needs. This ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate in this vibrant community event celebrating athleticism and teamwork along Zarautz's beautiful coastline.
