The Bike Hub presents the Sunday Epic ride series, an all-day adventure that showcases some of the best mixed-terrain routes in the tri-state area. Expect to traverse forgotten wood roads, fast gravel paths, and rugged singletrack, with a hike-a-bike section thrown into the mix for good measure. These rides are designed to be long, challenging, yet breathtakingly beautiful. The third Sunday of every month from April through October marks the start of these epic journeys. While there’s no perfect bike for this ride, anything equipped with approximately 2-inch tires will do just fine. Each event post will provide detailed information on the terrain you can expect to encounter. Starting locations may vary but typically end at a location that offers some sort of food and drink after your adventure. The rides commence sharp at 8am every Sunday. This particular ride, in partnership with Wicked Waystation, adds an extra-special twist. Located in West Wardsboro, this hiker- and bikepacker-centric hostel generously hosts the event. Known for their hospitality, Thais and Thom are local cycling legends who will be there to welcome you post-ride for refreshments and a cookout. The route takes you deep into Green Mountain National Forest on Bailey Road before tackling several brutal miles of the VT Super 8. Fast gravel sections bring you back home—best suited for either a gravel bike with tires wide enough or a hardtail mountain bike. Self-sufficiency is key in these rides; expect to carry essentials like spare tubes, pumps, multi-tools, patch kits, food, and water. While we occasionally stop at convenience stores, many parts of the ride are too remote for such stops. Group pace typically averages around 10mph but can slow down depending on terrain or climbs. The day will pass in a steady stream with occasional breaks for snacks. The route is designed to move continuously without rushing. It’s important to note that while these rides are free of cost, we greatly appreciate any donations you might consider making. The Bike Hub operates as a community-based 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to removing barriers to cycling for all within the tri-state area. We offer education programs and provide access to bikes and accessories. Join us in connecting through shared experiences on two wheels!
