Black Gold 24hr and 12hr Endurance Challenge

The Black Gold Endurance Challenge, set to take place from November 15th at 9:00 AM until November 16th at 9:00 AM, invites runners and walkers of all levels to Belfry High School for an unforgettable experience. Situated in the heart of Belfry, Kentucky, this event offers a unique blend of community support and competitive spirit.
The race unfolds on a meticulously designed one-mile loop around the school's track and parking lot, providing participants with flat terrain that includes gentle downhill sections to enhance your pacing strategy. The course is open for 24 hours or 12 hours depending on your preference, allowing you ample time to explore the limits of endurance.
Race organizers ensure an abundance of amenities throughout the event. A variety of food options will be available from early morning until late at night, including home-cooked meals, grilled favorites, and snacks donated by local restaurants and community members. Hydration stations are well-stocked with water, Gatorade, and even a unique offering: pickle juice to help maintain electrolyte balance during long stretches.
Participants can expect porta potties conveniently placed along the course and near both start and finish lines for added convenience. The area also benefits from reliable phone coverage through Verizon and Appalachian Wireless, ensuring that you stay connected with friends or family throughout your journey.
For those planning a longer duration on the track, indoor lodging is available in Belfry High School's soccer locker room complete with showers, while outdoor camping spots are permitted as well. Please note to leave no trace behind and pick up all trash from your campsite.
The event also features several categories for participants to showcase their endurance skills:
- A 24-hour or 12-hour rucksack challenge where competitors carry a 25-pound pack, with awards given to the top male and female based on mileage.
- A team relay option allowing three-person teams to strategize lap counts over the duration of either event.
Race timing is managed by APTming using chip technology embedded in bibs for individual runners and ankle bracelets for relay participants. The system tracks every lap accurately, ensuring fair competition throughout both events. Additionally, a halfway timing mat helps monitor progress during longer races.
Awards will be presented to top male and female finishers in the 24-hour and 12-hour categories, as well as team awards based on cumulative mileage for relay teams. Participants who achieve significant milestones like completing 50 miles or more receive commemorative belt buckles and wooden cutouts personalized with their achievement.

Packet pickup for race day is scheduled on November 15th between 7:00 AM and 8:40 AM. Be sure to wear your timing tag at all times and remember that headlamps are recommended due to evening temperatures dropping into the low forties or thirties.
