Black Hills Rails to Ales

Experience the serene beauty of South Dakota’s Black Hills at the Black Hills Rails to Ales. This 16-mile journey along the historic Mickelson Trail from Hill City to Custer promises a picturesque ride through vibrant autumn landscapes and dense pine forests, offering breathtaking views that will leave you in awe.
The route follows the path once traveled by trains carrying passengers and goods between Edgemont and Deadwood. Established in the early 1900s, this trail now stands as a testament to its rich history, inviting riders to step back in time while enjoying the natural splendor of South Dakota’s Black Hills region.
Upon reaching Custer, participants can unwind at Mt. Rushmore Brewing Company, where they’ll be greeted with delicious local cuisine and an array of craft beers. The event concludes with live music performances that add a festive touch to your day out on the trail.
Your participation wristband grants you access to $25 in restaurant credit plus a commemorative Black Hills Rails to Ales beer glass—a perfect memento of this memorable adventure.
The event kicks off early, allowing riders ample time to enjoy their scenic ride. Wristbands can be picked up from Tracy Park Trailhead between 10 and 11 a.m., with the trail opening at 11 a.m. for those eager to start their journey. The celebration continues post-ride until 3 p.m., featuring food, brews, door prizes, and live music.
