Blue Ridge Ultra

About the Event

Nestled deep within the Chattahoochee National Forest of North Georgia, the Blue Ridge Ultra offers an unforgettable trail running experience. This 50K loop race takes runners through some of the most picturesque and challenging terrain in the region, featuring a mix of single-track trails, forest service roads, and hidden paths that wind their way up and down steep mountains.
The course begins at the historic Shallowford Iron Bridge over the Toccoa River. From there, participants will embark on an adventure through the Benton MacKaye Trail, which includes climbs to Free Knob and Garland Mountain Gap before reaching Aid Station #1. The route then takes runners across a variety of terrains, including steep ascents up Bald Top and Deadennen Mountains, where 30K racers turn back while those competing in the full distance continue on.
The trail offers breathtaking views as it leads through dense forests and along scenic creeks. Runners will encounter technical single-track sections that challenge even the most experienced ultrarunners. The race also includes a section of Forest Service Road, providing a welcome change from rugged trails before returning to more challenging terrain for the final stretch.
For those looking for shorter distances, there are 30K and 15K options available on the same course, allowing runners to choose their preferred challenge while still enjoying the stunning scenery. Canine companions can join in as well with a special canine class starting shortly after the regular 15K race begins.
Aid stations along the route offer essential supplies for refueling and hydration, including water, Gatorade, cola, snacks, sandwiches, fruit, cookies, and candy to help runners maintain their energy levels throughout. Drop bags are provided at designated points (Aid Stations #2 and #5) for 50K participants.
The race starts on October 11th with staggered start times: the 50K begins at 8:00 am, followed by the 30K at 8:30 am, and then the 15K at 9:00 am. Canine runners will begin their journey five minutes later.
Participants are encouraged to pick up race packets on October 10th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm or during early packet pickup hours before the event itself, which runs from 6:30 am until start time at Ironbridge Bridge Cafe. Runners must also bring a signed waiver form.
Upon crossing the finish line, all participants are treated to a hot meal cooked by the Ironbridge Cafe and receive custom-designed medals along with race photos as part of their rewards package. Additionally, top performers in various categories will earn cash prizes and entry into next year’s event.
The Blue Ridge Ultra is more than just a run; it's an immersive experience that combines natural beauty with athletic challenge. Whether you're aiming to break course records or simply enjoy the scenic trails, this race promises to be a memorable adventure for all involved.
