Experience the Bootlegger Gravel Race, renowned for its challenging yet breathtaking landscape! The race offers two distinct routes: the 58-mile and the 85-mile paths, both commencing and concluding within the historic downtown of Lenoir, North Carolina. These courses traverse through the picturesque Wilson Creek Gorge, presenting runners with stunning vistas that showcase the rugged beauty of the region. The 58-mile route features approximately 4,500 feet of elevation gain, while the longer distance of 85 miles includes a significant ascent of around 7,250 feet. As you navigate these challenging terrains, keep your head up to fully appreciate the scenery that unfolds from the heart of downtown Lenoir into the Grandfather Ranger District, often referred to as "the other Pisgah." Both courses wind through idyllic countryside before leading participants into a gravel paradise filled with diverse and demanding terrain. Just after passing Coffey’s General Store and Museum, racers will encounter a course split: one route continues on to Maple Sally Road, while the 58-mile option heads elsewhere. The race is meticulously marked in Pisgah Productions style, ensuring clear navigation throughout your journey. Post-race meals and refreshments are provided for added comfort after your efforts. For detailed guidance, downloadable maps and cue sheets are available for both routes. Additionally, GPX files can be accessed to aid in route tracking via RideWithGPS links. Race day commences with sign-in from 5:00 PM on Friday through Saturday morning until 7:30 AM. A pre-race meeting is scheduled at the start line by 7:45 AM, followed immediately by the race kickoff at 8:00 AM sharp. Awards ceremonies for both distances will be held post-race around noon. Participants are expected to adhere to a set of rules designed to ensure safety and fairness, including mandatory helmet use, single-file riding except when passing, and compliance with local traffic laws. E-bikes are not permitted on the course. For your convenience, ample parking is available in downtown Lenoir’s numerous lots. The race start is located at 210 Main Street NW, just two blocks from the sign-in/finish area. A City of Lenoir police officer will lead out until the second turn onto Valway Rd. NW. The course marking system uses orange tape and arrows to guide racers effectively. For added security, download cue sheets or GPX files for navigation assistance. Rest areas are well-stocked with water and food; however, no drop bags are provided, so please pack accordingly. Traffic controls will be in place at key intersections by law enforcement officers from the City of Lenoir Police Department and Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office. Always come to a full stop at stop signs unless directed otherwise. Chip timing is available via number plates attached to handlebars. Ensure your plate is correctly displayed for accurate finish times, as missing or damaged chips may result in unrecorded results. If you switch distances post-start, inform the timing crew upon finishing. For live updates and race results, download the ITSYOURRACE app or visit their website. The City of Lenoir encourages overnight camping within designated downtown parking lots for racers and teams but advises against street parking. Comfort Inn offers accommodation options nearby with a phone number provided for your convenience. This event is granted special use permits from the City of Lenoir, National Park Service, and U.S. Forest Service to ensure smooth operations while respecting local regulations.
