Nestled within the heart of Lancashire’s Forest of Bowland, the Slaidburn Half Marathon is an exhilarating adventure that promises excitement and challenge for runners of all levels. This fun-filled race, often referred to as the little sibling of the renowned Bowland Ultra, invites participants to explore a diverse landscape through a mix of shooting tracks, technical singletrack trails, roads, and sections of boggy terrain. Scheduled for Saturday, January 9th at 10:00 AM, this event kicks off in the picturesque village of Slaidburn. The race registration window opens early on that morning from 8:15 to 9:30 AM, allowing ample time for runners to prepare and collect their maps before the mandatory briefing begins promptly at 9:45 AM. The roughly 13-mile route features an impressive ascent of over 2,000 feet, weaving through a variety of terrains. Runners will encounter stretches that are fast and runnable on vehicle tracks, sections where trails flow smoothly beneath their feet, parts with challenging road runs, and even some boggy climbs that test endurance. Despite the potential for varied weather conditions—ranging from rain to ice and snow—the race ensures safety through a mandatory kit list and marshals stationed at key points. Participants will start and finish in Slaidburn, enjoying a post-race meal and receiving a momento for their efforts. The event is not only about running; it’s also an opportunity to give back to the community by raising funds for local foodbanks. For those who need flexibility, race organizers offer options for refunds and transfers until November 1st (minus admin fees), with partial refunds available until December 1st. From January onwards, no changes can be made to entries but XCover insurance is provided as an option during registration through SiEntries. This ensures that participants have the peace of mind knowing they can claim a refund if unforeseen circumstances prevent them from attending. Join us in Slaidburn for this unique and challenging race experience where every step brings you closer to nature’s beauty and personal achievement.
