BRelay: Grab the Baton

About the Event

The BRelay: Grab the Baton returns to Wyoming, Michigan on August 13th, offering a unique opportunity for runners of all backgrounds to come together in friendly competition or camaraderie. This event is part of the Brian Diemer Family of Races and serves as an excellent training ground ahead of the LMCU Bridge Run's 10 Miler coming up later that month.
Pinery Park, home to the BRelay, offers a picturesque setting for this community-oriented race with its lush greenery and serene atmosphere. The park’s paved loop is ideal for runners looking to build endurance or simply enjoy the camaraderie of running alongside friends while taking in the natural beauty around them. As summer wanes into early fall, the air carries hints of crispness that make every stride feel a bit lighter.
Since its inception as part of the Brian Diemer Family of Races lineup, the BRelay has quickly become a beloved tradition among runners and teams alike. Teams can consist of 6 to 10 members for larger groups down to just two or even solo participants. Categories include male-only, female-only, and coed teams, allowing flexibility in team composition based on preference or availability. The spirit of the event is rooted in fun and creativity; costumes are encouraged as much as competitive spirits, fostering an environment where every participant feels welcome.
Teams participating in the BRelay will navigate a 1-mile loop that winds through Pinery Park’s scenic pathways, each completing at least one lap before passing off to their teammates. The race begins promptly at 6:00 PM after check-in and pre-race meetings earlier in the evening. With no shirt provided as part of an effort to keep registration fees low for everyone involved, this event focuses entirely on the run itself.
Weather conditions during August typically feature mild temperatures ranging from a minimum average of 16.5°C up to a maximum around 26.7°C, with winds averaging at about 10 kilometers per hour and humidity levels hovering near 70%. Trail conditions are generally hard and dry, offering runners stable footing throughout the race loop.
