Welcome to The Brokenagan, where trail running meets raw endurance at an elevation of 5,500 feet within the breathtaking Silver Star Provincial Park. This race offers two intense formats: the Backyard Ultra and the 24-Hour Endurance Run (both solo and relay). Whether you're a lone runner striving for personal bests or part of a team seeking camaraderie through challenge, this event caters to every level of determination. The course is a scenic 4-mile loop featuring single and double track trails that wind through lush forests, open meadows teeming with wildflowers, marshy lowlands, and past the serene Sovereign Lake. Each lap is designed to test your endurance on varied terrain—hard-packed paths and grassy stretches—and offers stunning views of the surrounding alpine landscape. In the Backyard Ultra format, runners must complete a loop every hour starting at precisely 6 AM until no one remains standing. The last runner to finish an unbroken loop wins. If all participants drop out before completing additional loops, there is no winner declared. This grueling event requires relentless focus and mental fortitude as each passing hour brings fresh challenges. For those seeking a more extended test of endurance, the 24-Hour Endurance Run allows you to complete as many laps as possible over a full day. The relay option lets teams of up to two runners take turns throughout the duration, offering strategic breaks while still pushing limits. Registration for early bird entries closes on January 31st, 2026, with fees set at $100 CAD per runner. Additional perks such as t-shirts and meals can be added during registration via UltraSignup (GST and processing fees not included). Aid stations are strategically placed along the course to provide essential supplies including water, electrolytes, snacks, first aid, music, sponsor expos, and a team of dedicated volunteers ready to cheer you on. Back at the staging area near Sovereign Lake Nordic Club's well-maintained trails, runners can relax between laps or seek massage therapy. The Brokenagan is known for its supportive atmosphere where participants encourage each other throughout the race day. Runners receive custom bibs, swag bags, finisher prizes, and professional timing services to ensure a memorable experience. The large staging area provides ample space for setting up aid tents and strategizing as teams or resting between laps.
